How to Stay on Track to Achieving Your Goals this Year

How are you doing with your resolutions and goals for 2017? Are you staying on track?

If you're like most of us, staying "on track" can become a relative term. There's a lot of time in a year, we reason. Give yourself a chance to ease into the changes you're making we tell ourselves. And, while these statements can be true, they can also be our downfall.

Case in point. One of my goals this year is to feel confident in a swim suit by the time our pool opens in May. I've defined confident as "knowing I have taken care of my body from the inside out so that I am as healthy as I can be physically." How will I do this? Well, I have set goal markers of the following:

  • Drink half my body weight in water daily

  • Cut out all gluten (I have an intolerance)

  • Eat fresh (not processed) the majority of each week

  • Attend a trainers workout at least 3x per week for 48 weeks of the year

  • Exercise 2 additional days per week

  • Get up and move for at least 7 minutes every hour I am sitting

If I were to subscribe to the thought that I have time to ease into this, it would be May before I knew it. And, since I am determined that this year I will not hide away from my pool, that train of thought will be detrimental to my success.

So, how am I planning on staying on track? By using my Tracker-To-Do list and Schedule Tracker.

Each week before I sit down to fill out my To-Do list and my Schedule Tracker, I review my goals (which I have written out and posted in front of me on my desk). I then choose to schedule the time I need to exercise, move during the day, and prepare healthy food for myself. It's a choice I CAN make, but if I don't the world will crowd in on my time and I'll be left with no time to exercise, no time to prepare the food I want, and I definitely won't be getting up to move every hour.

I know you know what I'm talking about, Right?

So, how does using this tool help me?

  1. First: the Schedule Tracker offers me a complete picture of what I have to do in a week so I know where I have time to schedule things like exercise and grocery shopping, and it helps me to plan ahead for meal preparation so I don't get caught having to eat out.

  2. Second: the Schedule Tracker offers me a visual reminder of what I intend to do for the week which helps me say yes and no confidently.

  3. Third: the Schedule Tracker keeps me motivated week after week with a clear image of the progress I am making to staying on track.

So, what about you? Could you use some help keeping yourself on track?
